New international strategy for post-secondary education will enrich learning
(TORONTO, May 3, 2018) – The province’s newly released international strategy for post-secondary education, Educating Global Citizens, will enrich the learning environment at Ontario’s public colleges and create new opportunities for students to study abroad.
“This will help build a stronger workforce by attracting more students to Ontario,” said Linda Franklin, the president and CEO of Colleges Ontario. “It also creates more opportunities for Ontario students to study abroad, which can enhance the value they can bring to employers.”
The strategy proposes a number of measures to increase international opportunities for students, including:
Expediting study and work permits for international students coming to Ontario’s public colleges in collaboration with the federal government.
Developing more support services in Ontario for international students.
Providing international students with clear information about tuition fees in Ontario.
Creating an internationalization fund for programming to build domestic students’ intercultural competencies.
Creating more opportunities for Ontario students to study abroad.
“Increasing numbers of students from throughout the world are enrolling in Ontario’s colleges because of the strength of our programs,” Franklin said. “This new strategy will bolster our international reputation and affirms our commitment to ensuring students play a meaningful role as global citizens.”
